Swipe unresponsive sometimes

So, awesome game 5/5 stars except:
You are in the middle of a run and a tree blocks your path, you swipe to dodge but keep running straight into the tree ending your run in disappointment.

This is a common occurrence and ruins an otherwise awesome game. I am on an iPhone 5s.
